Maurizio Sarri is closing in on a return to Serie A with Lazio as another manager linked with Tottenham Hotspur prepares to move elsewhere, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.
It is a month now since the reports emerged, via Football Italia, stating that Spurs had held talks with a man who guided Juventus to Scudetto glory in 2020 – an achievement that looks all the more impressive when you consider how quickly the Andrea Pirlo reign unraveled.
And, in truth, the rumours around Sarri have gone rather cold since then.
Tottenham appear to be prioritising the likes of Roberto Martinez, Ralf Rangnick, Erik Ten Hag and Graham Potter these days.
Perhaps Sarri’s somewhat disappointing spell down the road at Chelsea – a Europa League title and top-four finish overshadowed by a plodding, sleep-inducing style of football and a lack of love from the terraces – has convinced Daniel Levy to look elsewhere.
What’s more, the chain-smoking 62-year-old is now expected to stay in Italy anyway, with Lazio holding talks.

Sarri has agreed a contract with the Rome-based giants. Although there is still work to be done before a man who famously had Napoli playing ‘the most beautiful football in Europe’ during his time at the Stadio San Paolo the most likely replacement for the Inter-bound Simone Inzaghi.
What’s more, TMW reports that Lazio are looking into a number of players who have also been linked with Tottenham in recent months, including Bayern Munich legend Jerome Boateng and Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic.
Interestingly, Arsenal apparently considered Sarri as a potential Mikel Arteta replacement too, while the ex-Stamford Bridge boss was planning to bring Paulo Dybala to Tottenham.
