Maurizio Sarri would make Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala one of his top targets if he takes over from Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur, as reported by Corriere di Torino.

Despite lifting the Serie A title in 2020, Sarri’s one-year reign at the Allianz Stadium won’t be remembered fondly by an expectant Juve fanbase.

The football was hardly sparkling, with the 62-year-old failing to recapture the bottled-lightning of his thrilling Napoli spell, while cup final defeats to Napoli and Lazio were far from well received.

But Sarri can at least point to the fact that, under his stewardship, the enigmatic, ethereal Dybala produced the finest football of his Juventus career.

With 17 goals and 14 assists to his name, the Argentina international outshone Cristiano Ronaldo en route to Serie A’s player of the year award. And, while injuries and illness have played their part, Dybala hasn’t been the same since Sarri lost his job and was replaced by the rookie Andrea Pirlo.

According to reports in Italy, Sarri could take advantage of uncertainty surrounding Dybala’s future and attempt to lure the £40 million-rated attacker to Tottenham.

“Dybala is world class,” Sarri said of the one-time Palermo ace in 2019, via Football Italia.

Corriere di Torino backs up claims from Football Italia in stating Spurs made contact with the former Chelsea boss’s agent after sacking Jose Mourinho on Monday.

And while Sarri would hardly be a popular choice (he didn’t set the world alight down the road at Stamford Bridge after all) the prospect of Dybala’s arrival would do the reputation of this chain-smoking, potty-mouthed Neapolitan no harm at all in north London.

After all, many Tottenham supporters were desperate to see Dybala arrive as recently as summer 2019.
