Tottenham Hotspur have made a late bid to persuade teenage superstar Lucas Bergvall to join the club before the winter transfer window closes.

HITC Football understands that Tottenham have moved to try and convince the teenager that he should make a move to North London instead of Barcelona.

We previously reported that Barcelona were confident about winning the race to sign the midfielder this month.

They have been at the front of the queue to sign him for several days and Bergvall and his family are currently in Catalonia and Barcelona are still confident that he will put pen-to-paper in Spain.

However, Tottenham sources have confirmed that Bergvall visited London earlier this week while neither side is pushing for a response on Thursday.

Tottenham trying to persuade Bergvall to sign for them

The ‘exceptional’ young midfielder has a huge future ahead of him after breaking through at Swedish club Djurgarden this season.

The 2006-born central midfielder played nearly 1000 minutes of league football last season, appearing in 25 matches, scoring twice and providing an assist.

He’s not an attacking midfielder though and his key role in the team is to link up play and find pockets of space.

It’s no surprise that Tottenham are trying to persuade Bergvall to join them instead of Barcelona given his potential.

Spurs have made a concerted effort to sign talented young players and while he might not be immediately ready to start under Ange Postecoglou, learning from the likes of James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma in training would certainly help his development.

Spurs have already been busy this month

Anything could happen on deadline day but so far it’s been a very quiet window in the Premier League.

Timo Werner put in a great performance for Tottenham against Brentford on Wednesday night after his loan move from RB Leipzig.

Postecoglou also had to call upon new centre-back Radu Dragusin in the closing stages as Spurs looked to see out the match.

The Romanian defender is currently the most expensive signing in the Premier League this month although that could change today.

Tottenham are still keen on Dominic Solanke, HITC Football understands that talks haven’t opened over the £60m-rated forward.

If Tottenham can persuade Bergvall to sign for them ahead of Barcelona today, then it would be an amazing sign of where the club is heading under Postecoglou.
