Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring Noni Madueke back to north London two years after the PSV Eindhoven starlet walked away from the Premier League giants, as reported by The Standard.

Five years ago this month, Manchester United paid £89 million to re-sign a player who had left Old Trafford on a free transfer a few seasons before.

And while Madueke won’t cost anywhere near the sort of money Paul Pogba did, the quicksilver winger could be about to take a familiar route back into English football as Spurs look to reunite with a player who captained their U16 side during his formative years in Enfield.

Is Noni Madueke on his way back to Tottenham?

“I was right in my decision to leave Tottenham and join a top side in Holland,” Madueke told The Mirror in January having rejected a three-year deal at Spurs prior to joining PSV in 2019.

“My stats are a confirmation of my good choice.”

You can say that again.

Madueke may not be a regular fixture in Roger Schmidt’s first XI yet but, after producing seven goals and four assists in just seven Eredivisie starts last season, the England U21 international has begun the new campaign in fearsome form.

After ripping Galatasaray to shreds during a 7-2 aggregate win in the Champions League qualifiers, Madueke opened the scoring with a stunning long-range goal in last night’s 3-0 thumping of Midtjylland.

It’s that sort of rabbit-out-of-the-hat brilliance that has Tottenham, as well as Leeds, Southampton and Crystal Palace, making enquiries.

Madueke, whose rapid rise has seen him compared to Phil Foden (Daily Mail), has also been tipped to succeed Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund, such are the stylistic similarities between two skilful footballers who honed their talent on the streets of the capital.

It’s understood PSV have slapped a £20 million price tag on the London-born winger in an attempt to scare off suitors.

Paying an eight-figure sum for a player who left for free isn’t exactly a great look for Tottenham. But Madueke, with his talent, potential and goalscoring record from out wide, could be worth every penny – as long as Spurs are willing to swallow their pride.
