PSV Eindhoven have slapped a £20 million price-tag on Noni Madueke in an attempt to scare off Premier League duo Leicester City and Crystal Palace, as reported by the Sun (25 July, page 62).
The England U21 star has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund and, as PSV thrashed Galatasaray 5-1 last week, Madueke certainly produced a moment of magic that Manchester United’s new £73 million superstar would have been proud of.
Picking up the ball on the right-hand side, he left a poor Galatasaray defender bamboozled with a wonderful piece of footwork before setting up hat-trick hero Eran Zahavi as the Eredivisie giants all-but secured their place in the next round of the Champions League qualifiers.
PSV supporters are familiar with Madueke’s dynamic dribbling skills these days, not to mention the mind-bending tricks he perfected during his time in the Tottenham Hotspur academy, earning comparisons with Phil Foden along the way.
The London-born 19-year-old shot to fame with nine goals and eight assists during his breakthrough season at the Phillips Stadium in 2020/21.
Is former Spurs starlet Noni Madueke heading back to the Premier League?
According to the Sun, Crystal Palace and Leicester City would jump at the chance to cut Madueke’s Dutch adventure short.
But, with Donyell Malen and Denzel Dumfries expected to depart a club which finished 16 points adrift of Ajax in the Eredivisie title-race last season, PSV have no intention of further weakening Roger Schmidt’s roster.
PSV hope that a £20 million asking price will have his suitors running for the hills.
And it seems the plan is working too, with the Sun reporting that Leicester and Palace are now scouring the market for more affordable options.
Palace are interested in Reiss Nelson – Patrick Vieira’s Arsenal connections could come in very handy there – while Ademola Lookman is another target, following an impressive loan spell at London rivals Fulham.
RB Leipzig will let Lookman go for £10 million (Chronicle). Half the price PSV want for Madueke.
