Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur have joined Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United in the race for Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer, according to Dean Jones in GiveMeSport.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has said that he has been told by sources that Tottenham have Sommer on their radar.

Earlier this month, ESPN reported that Manchester United want to sign the Switzerland international goalkeeper on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.

The 34-year-old is out of contract at Monchengladbach at the end of the season, and United are reportedly working on a deal to secure his services on a free transfer.

And Tottenham have now joined the race.

Jones said: “Yann Sommer is one that I’ve been told is on the radar. They’re just looking to see what he’s looking to do next. So, I think various things will crop up.”

Strange

In our opinion, it is strange that Tottenham Hotspur are looking at Yann Sommer as a potential signing.

Yes, Sommer is a very good goalkeeper who played for Switzerland at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

But he is 34 now.

Hugo Lloris is the number one goalkeeper at Tottenham at the moment, and the France international is already in his mid-30s.

Fraser Forster is in his 30s as well.

Why would Tottenham sign another goalkeeper in his mid-30s?

We think that Spurs should try to bring in a younger goalkeeper, someone who is in his early or mid-20s.
