Tottenham signed Ivan Perisic last week and Fabio Cannavaro has suggested that the move is very bad news for Italian football.

It’s no great surprise when Tottenham are linked with signing players from Serie A.

Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte are calling the shots at Tottenham and both have great knowledge of the Italian market.

Sure enough, Tottenham struck with a raid on the Italian market last week by signing Ivan Perisic on a free transfer.

Perisic has penned a two-year deal with Tottenham as his Inter Milan contract comes to an end this summer.

Perisic worked with Conte at Inter and the pair now reunite in North London with Perisic likely to play as a wing back.

The 33-year-old brings major experience and a history of winning trophies – exactly what Conte was seeking for this Tottenham squad.

There may be more Serie A stars to follow as Tottenham have also targeted Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni.

Add in that Paratici has also signed Pierluigi Gollini, Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Italian clubs and Tottenham seem to have a strong pull on players based in Italy.

Serie A has suffered a little from the vast amounts of money elsewhere in recent years.

Premier League moves are increasingly appealing to Serie A players, even if some will view Tottenham as a club who haven’t achieved all that much in recent times.

This Perisic move has really left Fabio Cannavaro worried.

The World Cup-winning captain with Italy in 2006 has been speaking about Italy’s struggles against other nations.

As quoted by Football Italia, Cannavaro highlighted Perisic’s move to Tottenham as something that is of real concern to Italian football.

Perisic enjoyed a great season and has now picked a new start with Tottenham over continuing to shine with Inter, with Cannavaro concerned that this could keep happening.

“It’s complicated for Serie A sides to fill the gap with La Liga and Premier League clubs,” said Cannavaro “Perisic’s move to the Premier League isn’t a good sign,” he added.
