Sampdoria have opened negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur to discuss the Serie A side’s interest in possibly signing midfielder Harry Winks in the final month of the transfer market.
Harry Winks now wanted by Sampdoria as Serie A side open Tottenham talks
Tottenham Hotspur are now talking to Sampdoria over a possible transfer for Harry Winks to the Italian outfit. That’s according to Il Secolo XIX, via Calciomercato, who report the Stadio Luigi Ferraris side consider the England international to be an alternative to Lucas Torreira.

Sampdoria had wanted to re-sign Torreira from Arsenal four years after the Uruguayan left for £26m. But La Repubblica, via Calciomercato, noted the Blucerchiati could not meet the Gunners’ €15m (£12.5m) valuation, or pay the midfielder above €1m-a-season (£16k-a/w).

Now, Torreira’s future appears set to be in Turkey, as Calciomercato.it report Galatasaray are pushing to secure a deal. The Super Lig side have also already agreed a three plus one year contract with the 26-year-old in principle worth over €3m-a-year (£48k-a/w) plus bonuses.
Sampdoria turn to Harry Winks as Galatasaray eye Lucas Torreira
So, Sampdoria have switched their interest from one midfielder at a north London outfit to another, and have started talks with Tottenham over manager Marco Giampaolo’s interest in Winks. But a deal for the 26-year-old is currently considered almost impossible to agree.
Antonio Conte has given Winks permission to secure a transfer this summer as he is not in the Italian’s plans. But Sampdoria only want to hire the Spurs product on loan and will also need the Premier League outfit to continue paying a percentage of his £50k-a-week salary.

Additionally, Winks is likely to reject a move to the Blucerchiati as he would prefer to stay in England. The 10-cap Three Lions technician also has a number of suitors in the Premier League. So, Sampdoria will likely need to turn their interest to another alternative target.
That is unless the Hemel Hempstead native is unable to secure a new home in the Premier League. Everton and Leeds United have shown an interest in Winks this summer. But The Athletic note both cooled their pursuits owing to the slow nature of talks with Tottenham.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has also been favouring a permanent £20m transfer over any loan offers, per the Liverpool Echo. So, Tottenham could put yet another hurdle in the way of Sampdoria’s interest in Winks – a player Mauricio Pochettino once dubbed as ‘amazing’.
