Sevilla are in advanced negotiations with Porto over a deal to sign winger Jesus Corona, after the Tottenham Hotspur target rejected a new contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Julen Lopetegui’s Los Nervionenses are striving to conclude a deal for the Mexican ahead of their La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday. Sevilla have already added to the Spaniard’s squad with the arrival of Erik Lamela in part-exchange for Bryan Gil.
Lamela told Sevilla’s in-house media on his arrival at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium that the Andalusian outfit intend to challenge for silverware this season. Now, Lopetegui appears to believe Corona can improve their chances of bridging the gap to the top-three.

Sevilla are on the verge of signing Corona after agreeing a fee worth around €12m (£10m) fee for the Porto winger, who Tottenham admire. Duncan Castles claimed on The Transfer Window Podcast that Spurs view him as competition for Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty.
Porto have been looking to sell Corona as the 28-year-old refused to sign a new contract, per ABC de Sevilla. His current £30,000-per-week deal expires next summer, which piqued Arsenal’s interest, as well, according to the Daily Mail.
But Sevilla are likely to deal both Tottenham and Arsenal some bad news with Corona set to join from Porto. Adding a rapid option to Lopetegui’s squad, who can offer creativity from the wings or full-back.
Tottenham miss out on versatile Porto star Corona to Sevilla
Nuno Espirito Santo would surely have loved working with Corona if Tottenham struck a deal with Porto, rather than Sevilla. But he’s heading for Andalusia and Champions League football at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, after Los Nervionenses finished fourth last season.
Corona dazzled many admirers with his Liga NOS and Champions League exploits last term, as well. The 53-cap dynamo provided 13 assists and three goals in 48 games under Sergio Conceicao, up and down the right-flank.
Seven of his assists came from an advanced forward role and five at wide midfield, while also featuring at full-back. His lung-busting bursts down the channel could have seen the Mexican rival Doherty and Aurier for minutes under Nuno.
