Tottenham Hotspur have rejected a bid from a mystery Championship club for striker Kion Etete, who is now heading off to Cheltenham Town.

That’s according to Northampton Town boss Jon Brady, who has been left gutted by the loss of Etete tonight.

Tottenham have confirmed that they have recalled Etete from his loan deal with Northampton.

The Northampton Chronicle and Echo claim that Etete is now expected to go back out on loan to Cheltenham.

Etete, 20, hit six goals in 23 games on loan at Northampton, causing real problems in League Two.

Tottenham now want Etete to test himself in League One, and they have made an interesting decision.

Northampton boss Brady claims that a mystery Championship club actually made a cash bid to purchase Etete this month.

Tottenham decided to reject that bid and send Etete off to Cheltenham, who Etete actually rejected in the summer according to Brady.

Brady added that the decision to end Etete’s loan has come as a complete shock, but is thankful for Etete’s efforts.

“This news is obviously a blow to us but Kion has developed so well over the last few months with us that Spurs want to see him play at the next level up sooner than originally expected,” said Brady. “We understand that Spurs received an offer from a Championship club to buy Kion but have no intention of selling, however they feel he now needs to be playing in League One for his continued development. The situation has been taken out of our hands. You can only control what you’re in control of and this is totally out of our control.”

“What we can do is be grateful for the fact that we had a player for a period of time who was willing to learn and willing to work for our team and give us everything he had and improved immensely. The team he probably goes to, he chose us over them at the start of the season but now other people want him to play at a higher level. If I’m totally honest, I didn’t expect it. His rehab has been taken control of by Spurs because they have the best equipment to accelerate his recovery. I speak with Kion most days and I don’t think he himself knew until late on Monday,” he added.

Etete, 20, joined Tottenham from Notts County in 2019 and may be seen as a future first-team player given Spurs’ decision to reject a bid.
