Tottenham Hotspur want Franck Kessie but Barcelona are reluctant to let him leave despite his agent presenting a number of offers on Monday.

Barcelona made headlines with their strangely extravagant summer window but they did also secure a couple of free agents.

Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie both made the move to Catalunya and the deals appeared to be bargains.

Neither of them have nailed down starting roles at Barcelona though and there are already rumours linking Kessie with a departure.

Tottenham Hotspur want Franck Kessie

Kessie, 25, has started just two La Liga games since joining Barcelona on a free transfer.

The Ivorian was seen as quite the coup for Barca given that a number of other clubs were interested.

The problem is that Kessie is having to compete with the likes of Sergio Busquets, Gavi, Pedri and Frankie de Jong in the Barcelona midfield.

Kessie just isn’t winning that battle right now and speculation is linking him with a swift departure.

Mundo Deportivo report that Tottenham Hotspur are very keen on Kessie having targeted him at Milan last season.

Fabio Paratici will be well aware of Kessie’s quality and Tottenham appear to be rekindling their interest in the midfielder hailed as ‘very special’ by BBC Sport’s Pat Nevin last term.

Marca now claim that Kessie’s agent held a meeting with Barcelona chief Mateu Alemany on Monday.

Kessie’s agent allegedly presented three offers for his client – two from Serie A and another from the Premier League.

That’s very interesting given those Tottenham links but it’s stated that Barcelona have no intention of letting Kessie leave.

Xavi wants Kessie as cover for his midfield and a January exit won’t be sanctioned, possibly leaving the midfielder frustrated.

Tottenham would be wise to keep pressing on this one, as Barcelona’s need for cash may just tempt them into selling a player they signed on a free transfer.
