Tottenham Hotspur slipped to defeat against Aston Villa on Sunday with Ezri Konsa beating his boyhood club in North London.

Spurs fans were expecting better after another slow start against Brentford on Boxing Day.

It was another poor showing from Tottenham though as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Unai Emery’s Villa.

Emiliano Buendia opened the scoring for Villa after a Hugo Lloris error, with Douglas Luiz then adding number two.

Tottenham were drab, insipid and uninspired throughout and manager Antonio Conte is now facing major questions.

Boyhood Tottenham fan Ezri Konsa beats Spurs again

The win will have been particularly special for one Villa player.

Defender Ezri Konsa was born in Newham and grew up supporting Tottenham.

Speaking to Four Four Two in May 2018 (p80), Konsa admitted his love for Spurs and that playing for them was his dream.

That hasn’t quite happened for Konsa but he did claim a win over Tottenham in 2021, celebrating on Twitter after the victory.

Konsa has done it again though, heading to North London to claim a strong victory over his boyhood club.

This meeting saw Konsa get involved in a little heated moment with Tottenham defender Cristian Romero.

Ben Davies had jumped into a tackle on Ashley Young, leaving the Villa man writhing in agony on the deck.

Davies was booked for the foul but Villa players wanted a red card and Tottenham players were pretty angry.

Romero is never too far away from these situations but Konsa waded in to push the Spurs defender away.

The photo above shows Konsa pointing his finger at Romero, trying to ward the Tottenham defender away from his teammate.

The pair even squared up to each other with the two centre backs almost coming to blows on Sunday afternoon.

Konsa will be delighted with the win, especially against his boyhood club, and coming out on top against Romero was probably pretty sweet too.
