Aston Villa’s win over Tottenham Hotspur last night had special significance for a couple of men involved.

Villa fell behind to a Steven Bergwijn opener, but Sergio Reguilon’s own goal and an Ollie Watkins strike handed Dean Smith’s men the three points.

Watkins will have been delighted with the goal having grown up supporting Arsenal, whilst ex-Chelsea hero John Terry certainly enjoyed the victory.

As for Ezri Konsa, the game saw him play against his boyhood club.

Born in Newham, Konsa was raised in West Ham United country really, but Tottenham were his first love.

Konsa confirmed as much to Four Four Two in 2018, stating that Tottenham would be his dream move one day.

That looked like being a possibility earlier this year, as The Athletic reported that Spurs were keen on signing Konsa this summer.

Konsa chose to sign a new deal with Villa instead, seemingly shunning the idea of playing for Tottenham in the immediate future.

The defender started against Spurs on Wednesday, playing at right back as he helped keep Son Heung-min quiet despite being a centre back by trade.

Winning at Tottenham’s plush new stadium will have been a big moment for Konsa, and he took to Twitter on Wednesday night to admit that he enjoyed the win, no doubt feeling that he showed his boyhood club what they’re missing.
