Garth Crooks has praised reported Tottenham Hotspur target Jordan Pickford on BBC Sport for his performance for Everton against Chelsea last week.

Pickford, linked with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham, made a number of saves for Everton in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in London last week.

Former Tottenham forward Crooks believes that the 27-year-old has now become a better goalkeeper and is less erratic.

The Telegraph reported in November that Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte wants to sign Pickford.

The Sun reported this month that Everton manager Rafael Benitez is willing to sell the England international goalkeeper.

Praise for Tottenham Hotspur target Jordan Pickford

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “The only reason Everton left Stamford Bridge with a point was because of Pickford.

“He seems less erratic since his successful England campaign last summer and appears to have reduced the number of mistakes he was inclined to make from time to time.

“I was never a big fan of Pickford, but I must say he has become a calmer keeper and, with it, a better goalkeeper of late. I hope I haven’t jinxed him.”

Encouraging for Tottenham

In our opinion, Crooks’ observation about Pickford is spot-on and very encouraging for Tottenham.

We do not hear pundits and fans discuss the former Sunderland goalkeeper in a bad way these days.

Pickford has matured in his decision-making and does not make too many errors.

And that is certainly encouraging for Tottenham.

Yes, Hugo Lloris is a very good goalkeeper and is still going strong.

Lloris could even sign a new Spurs contract.

However, in our opinion, Pickford would be a very good signing for Tottenham in the long run.

The Englishman’s weekly salary of £110,000 (Salary Sport) is certainly within Tottenham’s reach.
