Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici did explore other options though, with Valverde thought to be one of them.
Fabrizio Romano claimed in June that Tottenham approached Valverde for talks over a move to North London.
The 57-year-old Spaniard had been out of work for a year having left Barcelona in 2020.
Valverde missed out on the job in the end as Nuno was appointed at Tottenham, even if some fans did want him.

The Athletic now claim that Valverde is actually enjoying his life away from football.

Valverde is instead focusing on photography. Out of management for the first extended period of time in almost 20 years, Valverde finally has time for his passion project.
Of course, Valverde eventually wants to return to management. A competent English speaker, Valverde may eventually head to the Premier League.
Nuno finds himself under pressure at Tottenham, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see Spurs consider Valverde again in the future.
