Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has told Football London that he has decided midfielder Harry Winks will be staying put in January.

Few could have really expected Winks to be making such an impact this season.

Winsk started just nine league games for Tottenham this season and his fortunes didn’t look any better under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Winks indicated in October that he wasn’t happy with his lack of playing time and would want a conversation about his future.

The Daily Mail reported in November that Winks was a top target for Newcastle United, with the midfielder seeking playing time.

Suddenly, Winks finds himself back in the Tottenham starting lineup under Antonio Conte.

Winks excelled against Liverpool earlier this month and now appears to be in favour under the Italian boss.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, Conte has now laid out his thoughts on Winks.

Conte has indicated that he knows he can trust Winks, and that’s why he will be staying at Tottenham in this transfer window.

That puts an end to Newcastle’s hopes, with Conte saying that he can rely on Winks moving forward even if others before him didn’t.

“Winksy is playing well and Winks has showed to be a reliable player,” said Conte. “And for this reason, Winksy will stay here.”

“I find players that are reliable, and then I can count on them and Winksy showed me that I can count on him,” he added.
