Tottenham Hotspur are understood to have made a verbal offer worth around £12million for Brighton and Hove Albion attacker Leandro Trossard.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Tottenham made contact with Brighton over a potential deal for the Belgian.

Tottenham were willing to verbally offer around £12million but Brighton said no, valuing Trossard at a much higher fee.

Tottenham haven’t come back with a new offer or advanced talks since then and it’s unclear whether they plan to or not.

The report notes that Trossard isn’t even on speaking terms with Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi anymore.

It’s stated that an ‘altercation’ with another Brighton player took place and Trossard isn’t being considered for selection.

Trossard has been left out of Brighton’s last three games now and he will surely want Tottenham to make a new move soon.

Tottenham could do worse than Leandro Trossard

Trossard’s time at Brighton appears to be coming to an end and the Seagulls activating a one-year option on his contract is more to preserve his value rather than to keep him.

The 28-year-old seems to be angling for a move away from Brighton and Tottenham do need attacking talent.

Son Heung-min has struggled on the left flank this season and adding another option from the bench like Trossard would be very useful for Antonio Conte.

Add in that Trossard has even played as a striker and as a wing back for Brighton and you can see why he fits into Conte’s Tottenham approach.

Hailed as ‘unreal’ by Rio Ferdinand, Trossard has bagged seven goals in 16 Premier League games this season, including a hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield.

Tottenham surely won’t go much higher than the £12million though given that Trossard is inching towards his 30’s and is out of contract in 2024.

It’s also worth noting that there is major rival interest in Trossard.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has told NBC Sports that Trossard is ‘one to watch’ at Arsenal as they consider him as an alternative to Mykhailo Mudryk following his move to Chelsea.

Newcastle United are also interested with director of football Dan Ashworth very familiar with Trossard having signed him for the Seagulls.

A January exit seems inevitable now but whether it’s Tottenham or a Premier League rival remains to be seen.
