Michael Dawson has said on Sky Sports News (1:20pm, February 12, 2021) that Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has been disappointing.

The former Tottenham central defender has not been impressed by Emerson since he moved to Spurs from Barcelona in the summer of 2021.

Dawson has said that he does not think that the 23-year-old right-back is good enough to play as a right wing-back.

Emerson was playing as a right-back under Nuno, but under Antonio Conte, the Brazil international has been used as a right wing-back.

The 23-year-old cost Tottenham €30 million (£25.09 million) (BBC Sport) in transfer fees in the summer of 2021.

Dawson said about Emerson on Sky Sports News (1:20pm, February 12, 2021): “He has been disappointing since he has come is.

“Is he a right-back like we saw him play under Nuno? Is he a wing-back? No, I don’t think he gets high enough for them.”

Tottenham should have patience with Emerson Royal

In our view, Tottenham should be patient with Emerson.

Yes, the Brazilian is struggling under Conte at the moment, but he is only 23.

Emerson is only just learning how to play as a right wing-back, and it takes time.

Moreover, Tottenham are not having a particularly great time at the moment, and it does affect players.

Emerson has made 18 appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham so far this season.

The 23-year-old has won seven and lost seven of their games.

The Brazil international has conceded 21 goals and has kept three clean sheets.

Emerson’s tackle success rate os 64%.
