Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has told Football.London that Sergio Reguilon will have to fight to regain his place in the starting lineup.
Conte has admitted that Tottenham left-back Reguilon has had problems since he recovered from COVID-19.
While the Tottenham boss is understanding of the former Real Madrid player’s health situation, he has made it clear that the 25-year-old, who has been playing as a left wing-back under Conte, has to earn back his place.
Reguilon did not play against Manchester City due to COVID-19, started on the bench against Burnley, and then came on as a substitute against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.
Antonio Conte on Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon
Conte told Football.London: “He had Covid, I think he had a bit of a problem to recover from this.
“But Sergio knows very well he has to fight to play, because also there is at this moment Sessegnon, that is playing regularly, he is having good performances.
“We have four wing-backs, with Doherty and Emerson, and also during the game, sometimes if I want to try to push the game I can put in this position also Kulusevski.”

Competition good for Tottenham
In our view, having competition in the team between Reguilon and Sessegnon is certainly be good for Tottenham.
You do not want any player to get complacent about their place in the starting lineup.
All players need to be wary of losing their place, and that makes them better and more competitive.
Reguilon is a very good left wing-back, but Sessegnon is also a promising player who will be determined to hold onto his place now.
