Tottenham Hotspur have shown an interest in Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel – but he fancies staying at loan club Monaco.
This one goes back quite a way.
Way back in 2019, talkSPORT reported that Tottenham had identified Nubel – then with Schalke – as a possible signing.
Nubel’s contract at Schalke was running down and Tottenham fancied signing him for free.
The plan was for Nubel to become the long-term successor to Hugo Lloris. Sadly for Tottenham, Nubel picked a move to Bayern.
Nubel predictably played just one league game for Bayern, sitting behind Manuel Neuer kicking his heels.
The 25-year-old decided he wanted to play first-team football – so why pick Bayern in the first place – and joined Monaco on a two-year loan.
Nubel has played every minute of the Ligue 1 campaign this season and Tottenham have rekindled their interest.
Bild claim that Tottenham fancy Nubel and Bayern are ready to sell this summer.
With Pierluigi Gollini set to return to Atalanta, you can understand why Tottenham are looking for another goalkeeper.
Nubel has been branded ‘extraordinary’ and even compared to Manuel Neuer, so the interest isn’t a surprise.

Yet L’Equipe now claim that Nubel actually wants to stay at Monaco having enjoyed his time in the south of France. Admit it, you’d probably enjoy it down there too.
Nubel still has a year left on that loan deal and seemingly isn’t keen on moving elsewhere.
That would be a blow for Tottenham, but one they’re used to after missing out on Nubel in the past.
You have to consider Nubel’s position here. He has already been sat behind a proven number one in Manuel Neuer and risks doing the same behind Hugo Lloris.
Sure, he may be the long-term heir to either of them, but at Monaco he is a key player featuring every week.
That’s vital for Nubel and may be the key reason why Tottenham simply aren’t his priority as thing stand.
