In our view, Tottenham Hotspur are putting excessive pressure on Pedro Porro, who looks set to join on deadline day to instantly perform, if they send Matt Doherty to Atletico Madrid on loan.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the former Man City right-back is set to join Antonio Conte’s side on Monday.

Pedro Porro, who is seemingly set to join Tottenham, with a £40 million option to buy in place (as per talkSPORT) in his loan agreement must deliver straight off the bat, as Matt Doherty is closing in on a loan move to Atletico Madrid, as per the Italian journalist as well.

However, we believe that as talented as the 23-year-old is, it isn’t the smartest call to sell the £15 million (Sky Sports) man on loan in January.

While right wing-back has been a problem area for Spurs, Doherty has been the best out of the available options.

Now, to let Tottenham star Matt Doherty head out on loan to Atletico Madrid now puts all the onus on Pedro Porro to fire straightaway, with Djed Spence set to head to Rennes on loan as well and Emerson Royal being a liability going forward.

Especially in January, when a player has not undergone a pre-season, the last thing to do is expect them to rescue the side in any way, shape or form.

For instance, as much as Luis Diaz impressed at the turn of the year, he was coming into a Liverpool side that were firing on all fronts.

With Tottenham letting their only viable attacking right-back in Matt Doherty join Atletico Madrid on loan, Pedro Porro essentially has all eyes on him to see whether he can justify the club’s longstanding chase towards his signature.

Ultimately, if he fails to step up to the plate from the word, ‘go’, things will take a turn for the worse at Hotspur Way, which is not advisable for Conte, Porro and the owners as well.
