European football expert Kevin Hatchard has been speaking to Sky Sports about Tottenham and Clement Lenglet.
Spurs completed the signing of the Frenchman on a season-long loan from Barcelona yesterday, and Hatchard believes the north Londoners have got themselves “a good one”.
What’s the story?
Well, in his role as a European football expert, Hatchard knows his stuff, so his comments on Lenglet should definitely excite Tottenham fans.
Speaking live on Sky Sports, he said: “I think he is a player who has lost a bit of confidence. He’s been part of a dysfunctional football club in Barcelona, they’ve had coaching changes, style changes, all of the financial issues.
“I think he just needs a fresh start. When he was at Sevilla, he was the next big thing, he was a really impressive defender, bringing the ball out from the back – I think Tottenham have got a good one there.”
Now, that should leave Spurs supporters full of encouragement, especially those who are still unsure about this signing.
Of course, Lenglet has struggled at the Camp Nou – there is no doubt about that.
However – as Hatchard states – Barcelona have been a mess since his £31.7m move from Sevilla in 2018.
Lenglet has been tasked with trying to concentrate on his football as Barcelona endure the worst financial crisis in their history, with chaos ensuing around him.

You will argue that, as a professional, this shouldn’t affect him, but he is not the only one who has declined at the Camp Nou since 2018.
Under someone like Antonio Conte, a fierce competitor and a world class coach, we expect to see the Lenglet of old in N17 next season.
How Tottenham will use Clement Lenglet
You may be wondering where the 27-year-old will play under Conte.

In our view, we believe the Italian will deploy the Frenchman on the left of a three-man backline alongside Cristian Romero and Eric Dier.
Specifically, we believe Conte will look to utilise Lenglet’s excellent passing ability, which should prove invaluable in games where Tottenham need to counter-attack their opponent.
As you can see above, Lenglet has previous when it comes to getting his teammates on the attack with one clever pass down the channel, which we think we’ll be seeing a lot of next season.
Only time will tell if he succeeds, but we think Spurs have made a decent signing.
