Tottenham Hotspur believe Pedro Porro is among the best players, technically, in Antonio Conte’s side. Spurs also have absolutely no doubt that the right-back will be good enough.

That is according to Dean Jones, who reports that Tottenham have the utmost confidence in Porro being a success. The 23-year-old endured a nightmare on his Premier League bow at Leicester City. But Spurs have no concerns that he will not acclimatise to a new division.

Tottenham paid Sporting Lisbon £5m to sign Porro in an initial loan transfer in January. He will complete a permanent move from the Liga Portugal club to north London for £39m in the summer. Spurs and the Leoes agreed to include an obligation to buy in his loan switch.

Porro earned his move to Tottenham having captivated Conte with his attacking exploits at Sporting Lisbon. The one-cap Spain international had recorded 12 goals and 20 assists in 98 games across all competitions with the Estadio Jose Alvalade outfit since August 2020.

He initially joined Sporting Lisbon on loan from Manchester City before the Leoes made his move permanent in May 2022. Porro set the Liga Portugal outfit back £7m plus 30% of any future fee. While Tottenham released Matt Doherty to create space in their squad for Porro.

Tottenham have the utmost confidence in Porro being a success in north London

Now, Tottenham have the utmost confidence that Porro will be a success in north London following his transfer from Sporting Lisbon. Even if Tim Sherwood slammed the wing-back on Sky Sports News (11/02, 15:45) after being ‘all over the place’ on his debut at Leicester.

James Maddison and Harvey Barnes ran rings around Porro as the Foxes beat Spurs 4-1 at the King Power Stadium. The full-back offered next to no defensive protection as he tried to push up the pitch. More sides will now strive to follow by running straight at the wing-back.
