Tottenham are reportedly the favourites to land FC Barcelona attacker Memphis Depay this summer, with the Netherlands international set to leave the La Liga giants.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Spurs are leading Premier League clubs in the chase for the 28-year-old forward, with the likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Inter Milan also interested in Depay ahead of the transfer window.

Depay has been impressive for Barcelona this season, with the former Olympique Lyonnais star the club’s top goalscorer in all competitions.

However, the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the resurgence of Ousmane Dembele in recent weeks have complicated the Dutchman’s role in the squad.

As per the report, Xavi Hernandez is a big fan of the attacker and how work ethic in training. Yet it is hard for the Barcelona manager to fit Depay into the XI with the young coach striking a good balance in recent weeks.

Moreover, with Barcelona still in serious financial problems, offloading Depay and his reported £158,000-a-week wages along with a transfer fee could be smart business from the La Liga side, and Tottenham could be a buying party.

Antonio Conte’s side are expected to go big on an attacker this summer to partner Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, and Depay’s quality and versatility could make the former Manchester United ace an ideal candidate for the summer.

Depay’s time at Barcelona has been unusual, to say the least, with the striker likely to be used as financial collateral damage this summer as Xavi plots to build the squad in his own image, yet the forward leaving for Tottenham could be beneficial for all parties.

Indeed, Depay could be a sensation under Conte, and a return to the Premier League as a better and more complete player could be the ultimate redemption arch for the Dutchman, who no doubt will want to impress at Tottenham after his underwhelming spell at United.
