If Tottenham Hotspur supporters have ever needed a tangible representation of how poor their transfer policy is, it’s this.
Yes, Spurs have won their last two games and scored a total of five goals.
But that 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa was only a couple weeks ago and it raised serious questions about how Tottenham sign players, particularly because Jamie O’Hara went on a lengthy rant about the recruitment shortly afterwards.
And it’s fair because, well, the money hasn’t been spent well enough.
And if this next transfer rumour materialises, well it sort of proves it.

According to talkSPORT, the North Londoners are set to rival Manchester United to sign Kyle Walker-Peters.
This is the same Kyle Walker-Peters who Tottenham sold to Southampton for £15 million during the summer of 2020.
So the fact that the player they sold is potentially coming back, and would still be Spurs’ best right-back, demonstrates frailties in their transfer approach.
Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty – who replaced the Hotspur Way graduate – have both joined the Lilywhites since Walker-Peters left and if the latter is a genuine target, it’s an admission that neither of those first two players are an upgrade.
Emerson and the former Wolves right-back cost a combined £40 million which, in today’s market, isn’t massive money for two players.
But the money isn’t important. It’s the indictment that Tottenham spent a decent sum of money and still failed to find an uprade on the player whom they deemed insufficient in the first place.
Walker-Peters was sold prior to Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte arriving in the Premier League, meaning that it was more than likely chairman Daniel Levy who sanctioned the sale.
And if Paratici and Conte want the Southampton player back then, well, it is a tad embarrassing for Levy and would raise further questions about the transfer policy.
