Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte is expecting to see left back Sergio Reguilon develop and improve after his goalscoring display against Everton.
With Tottenham 3-0 up at half time against Everton on Monday night, Conte was forced into substituting the injured Ryan Sessegnon at half time.
Fortunately, Tottenham had another natural left wing back to call on with Reguilon brought on in Sessegnon’s place.
Reguilon was Tottenham’s first-choice before a recent spell out due to COVID-19, and Sessegnon has been in decent form.
Reguilon wasted no time in proving his worth though, scoring within a minute of his introduction.
The Spaniard arrived at the back post to fire home from Dejan Kulusevski’s pass, securing a 4-0 lead for Tottenham before the game ended 5-0.
This was ideal for Reguilon, who will now be needed every week with Sessegnon potentially facing a spell on the sidelines.
Speaking to Football London after the final whistle, Conte admitted he was happy for Reguilon but now expects him to go up a level.
Conte believes there is ‘a lot of space for improvement’ with Reguilon and hopes he will begin to fulfil that potential moving forward.
“I was happy for Sergio Reguilon because after Covid he came in and scored. He’s another player who has a lot of space for improvement and my expectation is that he improves his level,” said Conte.

These could be pivotal months for Reguilon and Tottenham with Real Madrid allegedly considering a deal this summer.
When Real sold Reguilon to Tottenham for £27million in 2020, they included a buy-back clause which allegedly stands at £34million.
This summer’s window is the last chance to activate that clause, and The Mirror believe a decision will be coming within weeks.
Conte will surely want Reguilon to stay given the potential he sees in the 25-year-old, and clearly believes he can at least play a big role between now and the end of the season.
