Tottenham Hotspur are battling to try and sign William Saliba.

Arsenal fans expressed their frustration this week when Tottenham closed in on the £65 million move for Tanguy Ndombele.

This deal is more than Arsenal’s entire £40 million transfer budget.

But it could be about to get worse for the Gunners, with Tottenham said to be ready to swoop in for top Arsenal defensive target William Saliba.

RMC Sport report Tottenham have told Saint Etienne they are preparing to submit a bid for the centre-back.

This would be a serious blow to Arsenal, who unlike Spurs, cannot offer Champions League football.

Ndombele is a different case. Arsenal can’t afford him, and he hasn’t been on their radar this summer as a result.

The frustration from fans is simply that they can’t compete for him.

Losing Saliba would hurt. Unlike Ndombele, he is within Arsenal’s transfer budget.

The Gunners have identified him as an affordable target, and a star of the future they can build around.

Arsenal even need centre-back help far more urgently than Tottenham do, conceding 12 more league goals last season.

Losing out on Saliba to Tottenham is something Arsenal can’t even contemplate right now.
