Tottenham are now “trying” to sign Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal – who initially seemed certain to join Everton.
What’s the story?
Well, this has come out of the blue for Spurs fans.
It was the Daily Mail who claimed that Danjuma had already passed a medical with Everton, and the deal was still set to go through despite Frank Lampard receiving the sack.
However, there has now been a sudden development, with Tottenham intent on hijacking that agreement.
Fabrizio Romano – arguably the most reliable source for transfer news – has claimed that Spurs are “trying to enter the race” for Danjuma despite the fact he is all set to sign official paperwork ahead of a move to Everton.
It is even said that Danjuma completed all his media duties ahead of his expected move to Merseyside.
The Italian journalist adds that Tottenham will make a final decision soon – they will need to think quickly, however, as things are very advanced between Everton, Villarreal and the Dutchman.
Spurs are said to have proposed a six-month loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season if the Villarreal No.9 performs well in north London.
Interest in the 25-year-old comes after he lost his place in the starting XI at Villarreal following Unai Emery’s departure to Aston Villa.
So far this season, the Netherlands international has scored six goals in 17 appearances.
Tottenham should leave Danjuma to Everton
In our view, this deal doesn’t make much sense for Tottenham.
While Danjuma is a good player, Antonio Conte already has the likes of Heung-min Son, Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Ivan Perisic to play in his attack, which only allows for three forward positions in a 3-4-2-1 system.

Therefore, we cannot see Danjuma receiving much playing time, so it is certainly a strange deal for all parties.
We were also fairly baffled to see the Dutchman close in on a move to Everton given the chaos at Goodison Park right now, but at least he would have been a regular starter for the Toffees.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as things seem to be moving quickly.
