Barcelona attacker and Spain World Cup star Ferran Torres has told SPORT that he is keen to remain at the Nou Camp this month instead of leaving and returning to the Premier League – amid interest from both Arsenal and Tottenham.

Torres, 22, has been excellent for Barcelona since joining the club from Manchester City in January. He has had a hand in 19 goals in 45 appearances, with the majority of his outings coming from out wide. But he is attracting interest.

Estadio Deportivo reported recently that Arsenal could go after the Spain star if they fail to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk. But Tottenham are also keen. But, Daniel Levy is unwilling to spend more than £35million to lure him to North London.

However, ex-Manchester City star Torres has given his verdict. After scoring twice for Spain at the World Cup, he made it clear he has every intention of staying put: “Here’s to a 2023 with many magical nights at Camp Nou with our fans.”

Torres keen to remain at Barcelona amid Arsenal and Tottenham interest

Torres is underrated. Branded “incredible” by Pep Guardiola during his time at City, it is mad to think the Spain star is still only 22. He has already played 220 senior matches for Spain, City, Valencia and Barcelona – scoring 52 goals.

That is despite many of those 220 games coming from out wide, or off the bench. Barca’s £55m signing has laid on 25 assists, too. If Arsenal or Spurs could convince him to rejoin the Premier League this month, it would be a huge coup.

But it was always unlikely. He has a contract at Barcelona until June 2027 and looks settled. Barcelona are pushing for a La Liga title. He would not want to leave in the middle of that pursuit. Spurs and Arsenal may have to look elsewhere.
