According to The Athletic, Matt Doherty could be involved in a swap deal for Adama Traore from Wolves.

This would be a very interesting move. Not only because Spurs would be swapping a fringe player for one of Wolves’ key men, but because Doherty is, of course, Traore’s former teammate.

The Irishman played with the Spaniard for a couple of years at Wolves, and during their time playing together he had plenty of good things to say about him.

What’s Doherty said about Traore?

Doherty spoke to the Express and Star about the speedy winger.

“He’s unique. You just can’t stop him. You see how many people are trying to take him down, he either gets away or gets fouled,” Doherty said

“He’s one of a kind, we haven’t seen anything like him before. It’s scary. It certainly helps when you’ve got a player coming off the bench who can run the whole length of the pitch before anybody even gets halfway.”

Ironic

It’s somewhat ironic that Doherty could now be swapped for Traore. After all, they formed quite the partnership down the right at Wolves.

Traore coming to north London would usually have had Doherty licking his lips at the prospect of playing alongside his former teammate, but it sounds as though they could be swapping places.

To be fair, a move back to Wolves may be the best thing for Doherty. He’s struggled to really establish himself at Spurs, and with Tariq Lamptey being strongly linked, it seems as though he could have slip even further down the pecking order.
