Tam McManus has criticised Rangers manager Steven Gerrard on Twitter for defending Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers striker Morelos struck Dundee United defender Mark Connolly after 12 minutes and received a yellow card, and perhaps he was lucky not to be shown a direct red card.

After the match, Rangers manager Gerrard said that there was no elbow from Morelos, but he did say that it was a foul.

Former Hibernian and Dundee forward McManus, who now works as a pundit for PLZ Soccer, was following the match, and the Scotsman has slammed Gerrard for his comments on Morelos.

Title march

Rangers won 2-1 against United away from home in the Scottish Premiership and maintained their challenge for the league title this season.

Gerrard’s side are at the top of the league table at the moment with 47 points from 17 matches, as many as 13 points clear of second-placed and bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic.

However, the Hoops, who have won the league title in Scotland for the past nine seasons, have played 15 games.

It is only December, and although Neil Lennon’s side have been struggling this season, they cannot be written off just yet.
