Former Rangers strikers Kris Boyd and Ally McCoist have condemned Alfredo Morelos following an apparent elbow in today’s match against Dundee United.

Referee Steven McLean showed the Colombian a yellow card, but both Boyd and McCoist felt he was lucky to escape without a red.

Morelos struck United defender Mark Connolly after 12 minutes in an incident which Boyd has called “ridiculous”.

Speaking on Sky Sports at half-time, he said: “It’s a red card all day long. He’s a very, very lucky boy.

“It’s a ridiculous challenge. He is very, very lucky still to be on the field, and Alfredo Morelos and Rangers have got away with one there, that’s for sure.”

Reacting to the incident during the first half, co-commentator McCoist said: “Oh, dear me. There’s no words to describe that. It’s just foolish.

“I don’t know if you know, he has got previous. You might not be aware of that.

“It’s crazy, it’s absolutely crazy. It could’ve been a red, it could’ve been.”

McCoist said he was “surprised” to see Morelos come back out in the second half.

Rangers went in 2-1 up at the break thanks to goals from James Tavernier and Connor Goldson.
