Arsenal are open to selling former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the January transfer window, and the striker could even re-join his former side Borussia Dortmund.

That’s according to TuttoMercatoWEB, who note BVB have now requested information on Aubameyang’s situation. The forward has not featured for the Gunners since Mikel Arteta stripped him of the armband following his ‘latest disciplinary breach’ in mid-December.

The north Londoners won their first four Premier League fixtures without the 32-year-old, but lost to Manchester City on Saturday. He was unavailable to face the Citizens as Arteta and Aubameyang had agreed he could join the Gabon squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Aubameyang could be in Cameroon for AFCON until February 6, depending on how Gabon fare. Les Pantheres performing well could also prove a challenge in Arsenal’s quest to sell.

Arsenal will listen to offers for Aubameyang to remove his £350k-a-week contract running to 2023 from their wage bill. Juventus are interested in a deal, but are only able to afford a loan move. The Bianconeri may also now face competition from BVB for the 71-cap striker.

Dortmund make Aubameyang request with Arsenal open to transfer

Borussia Dortmund have requested information on Aubameyang’s situation at Arsenal as they consider a transfer for their former star. The Bundesliga outfit sold the Gabonese to the Gunners in January 2018 for £56m after the north Londoners’ submitted a third bid.

Aubameyang spent five-years at the Westfalenstadion and scored 141 times in 213 games across all competitions. He has since struck 92 in 163 outings for Arsenal, including seven this season. But only four of his Gunners goals this term have come in the Premier League.

A return to Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window may appeal to Arsenal and Aubameyang. They may offer his only permanent route away from the Emirates, with the Mirror citing loan-to-buy interest from Newcastle. They are also second in the Bundesliga.

The striker was a huge hit in North Rhine-Westphalia under now-Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel. The German coach still hails Aubameyang, noting via the Daily Mail in May last year:

“A fantastic striker, a fantastic finisher but more than that, a fantastic worker off the pitch. Always with a smile on his face. Very, very honest. A bit of a crazy guy, but nice crazy.”
