Newcastle United have reportedly made contact with Arsenal to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on loan with a £20m option to buy in the summer.

According to the Mirror, the 19th-place Premier League club are eyeing the 32-year-old attacker with Callum Wilson likely to miss most of the season due to injury.

Aubameyang is the highest-paid player at Arsenal, however, the striker has not featured in the matchday squad since early December after breaching a disciplinary rule that saw the forward stripped of the captaincy.

Whilst Mikel Arteta has not said that Aubameyang is free to leave, all signs seem to point to the striker departing north London this year, and now Newcastle could be an option for the former Borussia Dortmund star.

As per the report, the relegation-threatened side are eager to sign the forward in January initially on loan, with a £20m option to buy also being included in the deal should Aubameyang impress.

However, a deal could be difficult to do given that Aubameyang is currently away with Gabon ahead of this month’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Aubameyang to Newcastle would be stunning result for Arsenal

Whilst Arsenal would make a huge financial loss on Aubameyang if he was to leave for Newcastle, results over the past few weeks show that Arteta’s side are much better without him.

Indeed, it’s clear that Arsenal need to sell the striker, and Aubameyang heading to Newcastle could be a win-win for all parties involved.
