After representing five clubs in four different countries since joining Leeds United in the summer of 2017, Jay-Roy Grot appears to have found a home at last.

In his last six games for Danish outfit Viborg FF, the one-time Elland Road misfit has found the net five times. And his new-found scoring streak is a major reason why The Greens are sitting second in the Superliga table, just three points adrift of leaders Nordsjaelland.

What’s more, only two players in the division have scored more than Grot’s eight goals so far this season.

So, according to defender-turned pundit Kenneth Emil Petersen, it is only a matter of time before a man who hit the target just once in 23 games for Leeds United is on the move again.

“It makes no sense if he stays in Viborg,” Petersen tells TV3 of Grot. “They are second in the Superliga, and that’s insanely good. And you shouldn’t talk Viborg down, because what they’re doing is superb.

“But there must be some bigger leagues and some bigger clubs who are looking his way. (Club’s) who can pay significantly more.”

Norsjaelland’s £17 million wonderkid Andreas Schjelderup – nicknamed ‘the next Erling Haaland’ due to his Norwegian roots, slicked-back blonde hair and emphatic finishing ability – is perhaps the most coveted player in the division. Arsenal, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund are among his many suitors.

According to Petersen, however, a man who left Elland Road on a free transfer during the summer of 2021 can genuinely challenge Schjelderup for the title of the Superliga’s most feared centre-forward.

“Yes, it’s close,” he adds. “In any case, we will have to put him in that box (with the league’s best strikers). Great player, with physicality and speed. He just has so much to deal with as a defender. And he’s uncomfortable (as an opponent) because he has the speed and the physicality.

“And then he just fits in perfectly with the way Viborg plays. He is a top striker.”
