Reported Liverpool transfer target Arnaut Danjuma has revealed Cristiano Ronaldo asked for his shirt following Villarreal’s Champions League defeat at Manchester United, speaking to Voetbal International.

The five-time Ballon D’Or winner doesn’t give away his fabled number seven jersey to just anyone – Atalanta flyer Robin Gosens found that out the hard way during a Serie A clash with CR7’s Juventus.

Danjuma, then, must have done something special to earn Ronaldo’s affections when Villarreal travelled to Old Trafford in late September.

Then again, ‘special’ is probably the most appropriate word to describe Danjuma’s performance against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side that night.

Torturing Diogo Dalot during a mesmeric performance on the left wing, the Netherlands international led Man United’s defence a merry dance while assisting Paco Alcacer’s opener.

The Liverpool target was far and away the best player on the pitch – until you-know-who took centre stage.

Liverpool target Danjuma is ‘equal to everyone’ – even Ronaldo

“Who else but Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner,” Danjuma sighs. “I did take his man of the match trophy from him, though.

“When I’m on a football field, I’m equal to everyone. But Ronaldo is, of course, a phenomenon.

“Afterwards, we swapped shirts. He said: ‘You played a good game, congratulations.’ He’s actually a very sweet boy.

“You know what was really nice? He insisted I give him my shirt. Cristiano Ronaldo now has a shirt at home with Danjuma on the back!”

If reports are to be believed, Danjuma could return to England’s north west sooner rather than later. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have taken a liking to the former Bournemouth talisman it seems.

According to Voetbal International, the Merseyside giants scouted Danjuma at Old Trafford.

And they’d have been as impressed as Ronaldo was as the Dutchman announced himself on the European stage.
