An Aston Villa player who departed the club this summer has been slated for his start to life at his new club.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have been busy in the summer transfer market as they prepare for their first season in the UEFA Champions League and the Midlands club are keen to make the most of it.

Villa have spent a hefty amount of money on Amadou Onana from Everton and have also brought in Ross Barkley on a free transfer from Luton Town.

As well as incomings, Villa have also sold players with The Villains selling Douglas Luiz to Juventus but the Brazilian has already been criticised for his performances for the Turin club.

Douglas Luiz criticised for his performances at Juventus

Juventus included Argentine midfielder Enzo Barrenchea as part of their deal to land Luiz from Unai Emery’s Villa, as well as English winger Samuel Iling-Junior.

Weston McKennie was the name that was originally included in the deal but HITC understands that the American midfielder could not agree terms with Juve to terminate his deal which led to the two sides discussing Barrenchea and Samuel Iling-Junior.

Nevertheless, Juventus got a deal done for Luiz but the midfielder has not made a good start to life in Turin.

Ivan Zazzaroni, the director of Corriere dello Sport, speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, was rather critical of Luiz and was ‘too slow’.

“For me, Napoli had the best transfer market,” Zazzaroni said. “Juventus spent a lot and did well, but the trio Neres-Lukaku-Kvaratskhelia plus Buongiorno and McTominay is a Conte-style transfer market. Juventus spent a lot for me, paying for Koopmeiners, who is an excellent player.

“Douglas Luiz seemed too slow in his first outing, if that’s the case he could have stayed at Aston Villa, Locatelli did better. Up front they only have one centre forward, there’s something that doesn’t convince me about the Bianconeri”.

Villa made the right decision to sell Douglas Luiz

The signing of Onana has been a hit so far for Villa with the Belgian midfielder scoring on his Premier League debut against West Ham United.

Ian Wright has previously hailed the addition of Onana for Villa as brilliant with the Belgian offering a goalscoring threat with his height and physicality that Luiz could not offer.

Due to the money Villa received, and the two players the club got on top of the fee, this has to go down as a successful decision so far from the Villains.
