Manchester United and Liverpool are both keen to sign England World Cup star Jude Bellingham, and Rio Ferdinand has now commented on the situation.

It was The Athletic who revealed that both Erik ten Hag and Jürgen Klopp are keen to sign the 19-year-old sensation, although Ferdinand doubts the Borussia Dortmund No.22 would be interested in a move to Old Trafford.

Rio Ferdinand doubts Jude Bellingham would join Manchester United

Well, the Glazer family have just put the Red Devils up for sale, Cristiano Ronaldo has seen his contract terminated, and there is now plenty of uncertainty at Old Trafford.

As a result, Ferdinand thinks there is “too much work” to do at Manchester United for them to be an attractive proposition for Bellingham.

Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, the 44-year-old said: “Put yourself in Jude Bellingham’s shoes now. (Manchester) City are going to be in for him, Real Madrid will probably be in for him, they are all going to be, Barca, Bayern will be in for him. There’s too much work to be done at (Manchester) United.”

Interestingly, Ferdinand doesn’t even mention Liverpool, despite the fact Klopp’s side are said to be among the frontrunners to sign the teenage superstar.

According to Marca in Spain, even Real Madrid – who rarely fail to secure their targets – are becoming worried about Liverpool’s pursuit of Bellingham, who Borussia Dortmund paid £25m for.

ESPN add that the Reds lead the race for his signature.

Jude Bellingham should choose Liverpool

In our view, Anfield is the best destination for Bellingham, even if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.

There is something of a midfield crisis on Merseyside, with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago and James Milner not getting any younger, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are too injury prone to be relied on.

As a result, Bellingham won’t need to worry about fighting for a starting role.

He will immediately become the key cog in Klopp’s engine room, is likely to take Keita’s No.8 shirt, and will play in front of a fanbase who are sure to make him feel special.

Keep an eye on the midfielder’s future, as an exit from Borussia Dortmund seems very likely in 2023.
