Tom Aspinall believes Ciryl Gane’s recent comment could put the Frenchman in a dangerous position ahead of their UFC 321 bout.

This Saturday, Aspinall will put his undisputed heavyweight title on the line for the first time against Gane in the main event of UFC 321.

The two heavyweights have been linked to a fight several times before, with the Briton blaming the Frenchman for previous matchups falling through.

Now, just days before the fight in Abu Dhabi, tensions appear to be rising between the two, despite a mostly civil lead-up.

The heavyweight division is well-known for its unpredictable nature. Still, ‘Bon Gamin’ is not widely favoured heading into the main event.

But what Gane does have on his side is experience. While Aspinall may be more skilled overall, there is no question that the Frenchman has faced better competition over longer stretches.

The Brit currently holds the record for shortest average fight time in UFC history. No one really knows how he will look if this goes into the later rounds.

Because of that, heading into their five-round bout, Gane has said he plans to use his movement and distance control to drag Aspinall into ‘deep waters’.

Aspinall then questioned: “Did he actually use the words ‘deep waters’?

“Everybody who has said the words ‘deep waters’ gets knocked out in the first minute, go back and check the media that you’ve done. So, I’m pretty happy with that, that’s good.”

Aspinall will be hoping this is not the start of another unwanted betting trend in the sport. Dealing with the Drake curse is more than enough for most fighters without having to worry about another one catching on.
