Shay Given has claimed that it would be ‘brilliant’ if Newcastle United could sign Leeds United winger, Raphinha, as he told talkSPORT on Tuesday morning.

The former Premier League goalkeeper pointed out that Newcastle have ‘today been linked’ with the sought-after Brazil star.

The 25-year-old is indeed being looked at by those at St James’ Park, with The Daily Mail reporting that he would be a ‘dream’ signing for Eddie Howe.

Whilst the Saudi-backed club have the money to meet Leeds’ transfer demands, as well as pay Raphinha his wages, at the end of the day, they aren’t in Europe, so other reported parties will win that race.

Despite that, Given is liking the idea of Raphinha being tipped to move to Newcastle, as the club continues to bulk up its squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

“Today they have been linked with Raphinha as well from Leeds,” said Given. “I mean that would be a brilliant signing also. So, we will see.”

RAPHINHA HEADING TO A TEAM IN EUROPE

Whilst Newcastle have the money to bring Raphinha to the club, he will more than likely end up at a team that’s in Europe next season.

It seems as though his dream move is to join Barcelona, as South American expert Tim Vickery explained, but at the end of the day, the La Liga giants aren’t exactly in a financial situation to get a deal done.

That’s where the door has opened for a number of Premier League teams, including the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.

The London trio are keen for the 11-goal Premier League forward to join them, with two of those sides being able to provide Champions League football.

But, ahead of Gabriel Jesus’ imminent transfer to the Emirates, will Raphinha possibly follow in the footsteps of his fellow countryman this summer?
