Aston Villa star Ashley Young has taken a sly dig at Arsenal’s celebrations after the full-time whistle following their 1-0 win at Villa Park this weekend.
Speaking to VillaTV via the Metro, the former England international noted that the Gunners celebrated their win against Villa as if they had won the league, with Ruben Neves making a similar criticism earlier in the season after Arsenal had claimed a similar result.
Arsenal made it five away wins in a row and once again cemented their place in fourth-place in the Premier League standings, with Mikel Arteta’s side now four points clear of Manchester United with a game in hand.
With both Aaron Ramsdale and Gabriel Martinelli missing from the squad, Arsenal managed to dig deep and secure the three points against Villa thanks to another Bukayo Saka goal, and after Philippe Coutinho’s last-minute free-kick was saved by Bernd Leno, the celebrations were out in full force.
The Arsenal squad were pictured running over and celebrating with the travelling away fans, yet for Villa veteran Young, it looked to him that the Gunners had just won the Premier League title given how happy they were.
Young said on the celebrations; “We want to make this a tough place to come and I think it is a tough place. You saw the way they celebrated, to be honest it was like they won the league. But it shows they found it tough.”
Arsenal have every right to celebrate massive Villa win

As mentioned, Neves had some problems with Arsenal celebrating a win after the Gunners beat Wolves earlier in the season, and just like with Young’s comments, the north London side have every right to be joyous over their latest victory.
Indeed, the win puts Arsenal in an incredible position to qualify for the UEFA Champions League with ten games to go, and with Arteta yet to win at Villa Park, the result was another huge mental barrier that has been broken by the squad and one that will go a long way in the final weeks of the campaign.
