Tim Sherwood wasn’t happy with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg despite Tottenham Hotspur securing a 4-1 win over Newcastle United on Sunday.

After five games without a win for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur, they needed to get back on track and they did it in style against their Champions League challengers.

Both teams have been hit with injuries this season, but it was Spurs who, once again, made a fast start and this time they made it count – Jacob Murphy hailed Son Heung-min.

The only disappointment was not keeping a clean sheet after Joelinton scored in stoppage-time after a mistake from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Tim Sherwood slammed the ‘poor’ decision-making from the Tottenham midfielder and how goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario should be ‘getting him’ in the dressing room, as he told Premier League Productions (10/12/23 at 6:50 pm).

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg didn’t actually start the game, but was brought on after 73 minutes, and even though he spent little time on the field, he left Tim Sherwood unimpressed.

“The only disappointment for me was, even though they are 4-0 up,” said Sherwood.

“Hojbjerg comes on and makes a poor decision again in possession. Vicario, for me, should be getting him in the changing room saying ‘I wanted a clean sheet there’.

“That’s the demand. They are those small margins. It was a sloppy goal to give away.”

Can Tottenham re-find their form?

Those injuries to the likes of Micky van de Ven and James Maddison derailed Spurs big time and it showed in their results.

But the fact of the matter is they are still sitting fifth in the Premier League table, three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City and seven points behind leaders, Liverpool.

There is every chance that fifth spot becomes available for Champions League football next season.

All of which increases Spurs’ chances of returning and playing against the elite next season.
