Tim Sherwood has urged Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United to sign Brighton and Hove Albion teenager, Evan Ferguson, as he told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (21/01/23 at 8:40 pm).
The 18-year-old was being lauded by Don Hutchison after he scored his third Premier League goal in five matches following his side’s 2-2 draw at Leicester City on Saturday.
The ex-Liverpool midfielder shared how one of his former teammates, who coached Evan Ferguson at the Amex Stadium, dubbed the all-action striker as ‘the most complete’ teenager he has ever seen on a football pitch.

Well, with three goals from his first five league matches, including scoring against Arsenal, at Goodison and supplying an assist against Liverpool, it has been some start for the Irishman – is he related to Merseyside legend, Duncan Ferguson?
Eddie Howe’s side recently allowed Chris Wood to leave the club for Nottingham Forest, which leaves Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak as the club’s main strikers.
Well, before Hutchison can laud the qualities being showcased by Ferguson, he was recommended by Newcastle to ‘go in there now’ and swoop him.
“Mark Beard, who I used to play with, coached him at U18 level,” said Hutchison. “He said that he’s the most complete teenager he’s ever seen. He was like ever, ever seen.
“He said that ‘he was amazing’. Left foot, right foot, in the air as we saw against Leicester. Hold up play. For a player that’s so young to be complete for someone that’s coached him. It tells you that this kid has the potential to go right to the very top.”
Sherwood added: “Didn’t we mention Newcastle looking for a striker?! Well, that might be on there. Go in there now. There’s no point trying to get him when he has scored 50 Premier League goals because he will be unaffordable.
“I think now is the time you need to pick them out. This boy has certainly emerged, hasn’t he?! Trossard was allowed to leave the football club. Ferguson has emerged from nowhere. De Zerbi is obviously looking down on the academy as well. He appreciates the quality of this boy. That finish is outstanding (v Leicester). That’s Alan Shearer in his pomp.”

GOALSCORING NUMBER 10
Whilst Ferguson is an out-and-out number nine, a player of his ilk isn’t needed because the Magpies already have Wilson and Isak.
Its goals from midfield which would do them a world of good, added to how lethal they are already proving to be out wide.
Howe has hinted at his Champion League-chasing side possibly adding more firepower to their squad this month.
What will be interesting is what type of player is brought in this month because if they have the ability to play across the front three, then he will tick a lot of boxes.
