Tim Sherwood has claimed that Tyrone Mings was ‘too scared’ of Luis Diaz during Liverpool’s 2-1 win at Aston Villa on Tuesday night, as he told Premier League Productions.
The Liverpool winger provided Sadio Mane with the crucial assist for the winning goal at Villa Park, as the Reds came from behind to win.
It was a hostile atmosphere inside Villa Park, but Liverpool showcased their Premier League title-chasing might, as it was a near-perfect evening for Jurgen Klopp.
There will be a slight worry in the sense that Fabinho went off injured in the first half, as Jordan Henderson expressed his thoughts on the situation.
But with Mo Salah on the bench, it was the duo of Diaz and Mane that combined to produce the game-changing moment for their team.
Sherwood labelled Diaz’s cross to Mane as ‘exquisite’ and shared how Mings simply didn’t want to engage with the Liverpool 25-year-old.
“Luis Diaz’s cross was exquisite,” said Sherwood. “What a cross this is. When he makes the run, he gets in and Mings gets further away because he’s too scared to get close to him.
“Then he picks his head up and drills it across the box – Mings just gets further away because he’s scared that he’s going to get beat one v one.”

In the second half, Diaz switched wings in order to get the best out of his talents and unlock Villa’s defence.
Liverpool’s second goal came when Villa poorly worked their own throw-in, but Diaz and his teammates still had a lot to do.
As he fronted up the Villa captain on the left flank, the January signing provided a pin-point cross onto the head of Mane.
And the Africa Cup of Nations winner showcased his world-class talents by guiding the ball perfectly into the back of the net.
