Spurs qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Tim Sherwood has told TalkSPORT that Tottenham Hotspur are one of seven teams that can win the Champions League, but reckons Manchester United have “no chance”.

Spurs qualified for the last 16 by the skin of their teeth on Tuesday night, securing an excellent 1-1 draw with Barcelona. They had to match Inter Milan’s result with PSV Eindhoven.

Hirving Lozano put PSV ahead, and Inter could only muster one goal in response through Mauro Icardi. It meant that Spurs went through ahead of Inter on goals scored – leaving Inter to fend in the Europa League after Christmas.

With Spurs in the last 16, Sherwood reckons they are one of seven teams who have a chance of winning the entire tournament, along with Manchester City, Liverpool, Juventus, Barcelona, PSG and Real Madrid.

“I think Tottenham can win it. I think there are seven teams who can win it, out of 16,” Sherwood said. “You got three Premier League teams, Man City, Liverpool, Tottenham. United have got no chance of winning the Champions League.

“PSG will be a threat with the fire power they have. Juventus, obviously. Then you’ve got the two big giants of Spain. Other than that, you can have anyone you want – I’ll take all your money Al [Brazil].”

Barcelona took the lead through Ousmane Dembele, after a mistake from Kyle Walker-Peters allowed the speed machine to race past the Spurs defence and score.

Spurs huffed and puffed and had glorious second-half chances – most notably coming in the form of Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen. But finally, Harry Kane’s excellent work down the left flank saw Lucas Moura convert from six yards out.

The draw for the last 16 will take place on December 17 at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. French side Lyon and Shakhtar Donetsk are the only two sides left to fight it out for the last place in the knockout stages.
