Tim Sherwood has been pretty critical of Rodrigo Bentancur ever since Tottenham signed him up in January, but now it seems as though he is warming to him.

For a number of months, the former Spurs boss has labelled the midfielder as ‘bang average’ and also claimed that all he does is pass ‘backwards and sideways’.

Well, on the final day of the Premier League season, Spurs confirmed that Champions League football will be coming back to the Lane.

Bentancur, alongside his January signing, Dejan Kulusevski, put in a strong showing as they thumped Norwich 5-0.

But Sherwood has now changed his mind about Bentancur, as he praised the midfielder for doing ‘brilliantly’ alongside Kulusevski on MatchDay Extra on PL Productions (22/05/22 at 8:15 pm).

“It was never really in doubt,” said Sherwood. “If you could pick one team to play, it’s already-relegated and rooted to the bottom of the Premier League, Norwich City.

“Bentancur breaks forward and he squares it to his pal Kulusevski. They have both come in January and they have done brilliantly.”

Hargreaves added: “You are right about Bentancur and Kulusevski, they have been fantastic. What a signing. He (Kulusevski) has made such a difference.

“This front group of players is what’s getting them into the Champions League. They have more depth than Arsenal.”

TOTTENHAM’S JANUARY SIGNINGS HAVE MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE

Whilst Arsenal didn’t bring in new faces during the January transfer window, the same with West Ham and Manchester United continued the capitulate.

Those at Hotspur Way added Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur to their ranks and they made the world of difference.

The energy, competition, bite, goals and assists they have provided is second to none and it has played a big part in why they secured Champions League football.

Back in January, all of the above teams had a chance to finish fourth, with Spurs well behind, but at the end of it all, they were the ones humming to the Champions League anthem.
