Speaking on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel, Tim Cahill has remarkably named Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris as his Premier League Player of the Month for November.
Cahill was quick to note that it was an unorthodox pick, but he believes that goalkeepers deserve to be praised when they’ve done well, considering how much stick they get when they make a mistake.
“For me it’s not tricky, I’m going to go for something that’s probably not the usual, I’m going to go for Hugo Lloris,” the former Everton man said.
Cahill was then informed that it was the first time a goalkeeper had been named as Player of the Month on that particular show.
“I don’t think goalkeepers will have this sort of month, I hope they do, where the goalkeeper is going to get praised.
“They’re the first to get picked on when something goes wrong, but at the same time I’m not sure they’re the ones people look to praise, they only look at the front half, which is what we work in.”
If a goalkeeper is ever going to win this award, then it probably does deserve to be Lloris after the month he has had.
The Frenchman conceded just one league goal throughout November, despite facing off against the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, two sides who have scored at will at times this season.
Lloris has earnt huge praise from fans during this time, and Cahill believes he has shined above everyone else this month.
Of course, it’s much easier to make a case for attacking players as goals often speak for themselves, but when it comes to earning points for your team, there are few players in the league who have contributed quite like Lloris did throughout November.
