Jack Wilshere is a free agent after being released by West Ham on transfer deadline day.
The Daily Record report he could join Rangers and he has posted on his Instagram story suggesting his next move could be sorted soon.
We’ve picked out three reasons his career could get back on track at Ibrox.
Relationship with Gerrard
There’s clearly mutual admiration between Gers boss Steven Gerrard and Wilshere.
Speaking about Wilshere’s talent in February 2013, when they were England team-mates, Gerrard said that it’s ‘scary’ how good the then-Arsenal man could get.
Wilshere raved over Gerrard in January 2013 as well, calling him a ‘complete’ midfielder.
Gerrard should be the perfect manager to get the most out of Wilshere.
Rangers’ record transfers

£12.5m
- Ryan Kent (2019)
£7m
- Michael Ball (2001)

- Mikel Arteta (2002)
£6m
- Giovani van Bronckhorst (1998)
£5.5m
He knows he needs games
Wilshere has to be playing football now, no doubt about it.
West Ham have three central midfielders and they still let Wilshere go, so it makes sense for him to go somewhere he’s loved.
Wilshere’s passion should endear himself to the Rangers fans, and on a free he seems a relatively risk-free signing.
Gers hitman Jermain Defoe said in April 2018 Wilshere is so good he should have started at that summer’s World Cup – where England made the semi-finals – if fit.

He seems to be fit
According to TalkSport’s Alan Brazil, and the statement Wilshere himself made on Instagram on deadline day, he has been fit for eight months.
There would be no point in Rangers signing a crock, but Wilshere appears to be getting over his fitness demons.
Gerrard already carefully manages Ryan Jack and there’s no reason he couldn’t do the same for Wilshere.
Wilshere has the quality to tear it up in Scotland if he can stay fit for a whole season. Staying fit for eight months is a good start.
