Everton are likely to reduce the size of their bloated squad in January.

Marco Silva the head coach

Marco Silva’s main aim in the January transfer window may be to reduce the size of his bloated Everton squad, with many players currently rotting on the sidelines without a whiff of first-team football.

Everton are struggling after a 6-2 loss to Tottenham Hotspur last time out and sit way down in 11th place. If they are to sign new players next month, they may have to sell first.

Here are three out-of-favour players they are likely to offload in January, if Silva does indeed look to sell:

Oumar Niasse

Niasse has already been linked with a move to Cardiff City, with reports suggesting that Everton have given up on turning the £13.5million signing from Lokomotiv Moscow into a an effective player.

Just 38 appearances since joining the club in January 2015 under Roberto Martinez shows what a waste of money the 28-year-old striker has been. He is almost a cert to leave the club next month.

Mason Holgate

Defender Holgate has been somewhat harshly axed from the Everton side of late. Summer signings Yerry Mina and Kurt Zouma have seen the versatile star drop down the pecking order.

Just five Premier League appearances all season is likely to see 22-year-old considered flexible and if a move come sin January, he could be off. Leeds are reportedly considering an offer for Holgate, as claimed by the Sun on Sunday.

Morgan Schneiderlin

French midfielder Schneiderlin managed his first league appearance against Spurs since October 6, with the likes of Andre Gomes, Tom Davies, Idrissa Gueye and Gylfi Sigurdsson preferred in the middle of the park.

Now 29 years of age, the former Manchester United ace will be keen to get the most out of his remaining years at this level and leaving Goodison Park will allow him to do that – just two years after joining Everton from Old Trafford for £24million (Guardian).
