Leeds United could reportedly change their plans in January and make a move for the young Everton defender.

Leeds are monitoring Mason Holgate as the Whites consider changing their January plans by making a loan bid for the Everton youngster, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (23/12; page 61).

With the club flying high in the Championship, Marcelo Bielsa was reportedly planning to enjoy a quiet window. But the raft of injuries that he has had to deal with has left the Leeds boss reconsidering his options.

Many of those injuries have come in defence. The likes of Gaetano Berardi, Luke Ayling and Liam Cooper have been missing in recent games, and Bielsa is now considering signing cover at the back.

The Sun on Sunday (23/12; page 61) reports that Leeds are ‘making hurried checks’ on the 22-year-old Everton ace, and could make a bid that would see Holgate move to Elland Road for the rest of the season.

Holgate has made five Premier League appearances this term, but has not featured for Marco Silva’s men since September. So he would surely relish the chance to get some game-time during the second-half of the campaign.

And by heading to Leeds, Holgate would be joining one of the sides that look set to be a key player in the Championship promotion race. Impressing with the Whites and helping them get across the line in the second tier could be a fantastic way for the youngster to play his way back onto Silva’s radar at Goodison Park.
